Perch are going also deeper in the 10 to 14 foot range. Several larger females were caught as they are well after spawn. The water temps are in the mid to upper fifty degree range.Area panfishing is also kicking in , crappie are going in the new weeds starting to come up near spawning sites. Pat from Denny's Resort Hello from Big Winni. Another season is apon us . Walleys open this Saterday. Should be a good opener as our water temps are in the mid fifty degree range. Look shallower for the males in the 6 to 12 foot range with jigs and shinners. The females have had a little time to recoop and should also be in a eating mood. Look a bit deeper in the 10 to 20 foot range. Rigs and shinners or leeches should turn some of these fish. Area smaller lakes have had some crappie action going already, if you get your walleyes and are looking for something different. See you on the lake. Pat.

September 29, 2011

Pat from Denny's Resort Big Winni Walleye bite is good on the main lake bars. Bena bar from little Musky north thru The Bend is good , rigging with crawlers. Horshoe and Moses also doing well same tactics. The shallow bite in the weed edges is been getting a bit better. Ravens point north up to Mallard, High banks and the Rock on the east side have been going with jigs and fathead minnows. Trolling shad raps in the evenings has been a producer also. Perch have been very good in many shallower spots around the lake. Jigs and minnows is the ticket. Crappies and Sunnies have gone deep but are very catch-able. Look to 20 to 30 feet of water. Pike have been very active also. Big minnow worked outside the weed lines slow trolled with a split shot two feet up from the hook. Open bail give it a 5 count set the hook and hang on. Several fish this week up to ten lbs have been caught.

Hunters are seeing some grouse, but we have had cooler temps. The leaves are coming down fast now so birds will be easier to see. Duck hunters are here but not big numbers. Some are reporting good hunting some are not. Smaller lakes are the ticket it seems now. Mallards, and some ringnecks. Goose hunters are seeing plenty of birds. Cooler temps soon should get the deer to move. Few bow hunters out. Pat

September 21, 2011

Pat from Denny's ResortHello from Big Winni. The fall bite should be kicking in soon. We are now seeing a cool down. The water temps are down to the sixty degree range. The perch bite is on fire with numbers and size. The Raven rocks , Bena bar from the backside of Big Musky out to the bend and the humps are all producing. Jigs and fatheads working well. Walleyes are spotty but are catch-able in a few different ways. One day shallow rocks is the way to go the next day trolling small crank baits is best, and the next day the main lake bar bite with rigs is the best. September 6, 2011

Pat from Denny's ResortHello from Big Winni. The big lake bite is changed a bit lately. You can catch a Walleye jigging with minnows in 3 to 5 feet of water or you can rig a main lake bar in 12 to 20 feet of water, or you can troll smaller crank baits out side of weed edges in 10 to 15 feet of water and catch a couple of fish all in the same day. Smaller bite windows that last from 15 minutes to 2 hours means a lot of choices for us fishermen. Trollers are doing best on the west side from Sugar island up to Mallard Point. High banks has some jig fish going with the right wind shallow. Bena bar from Little Musky out to the long bar has been ok. Perch bite has been very good on the Raven ridge rocks with fatheads and firetiger fireball jigs. February 21, 2011

Pat from Denny's ResortHello from Big Winnie. The big lake has gotten very good for travel this weekend with the cold weather. Atvs can go anywhere. Pick ups with 4wd can travel 90- percent of the lake. Perch bite is doing well also as light getting through the ice has gotten them active. Mornings till about 2 pm has been best. Get in on the last week of Walleyes and Pike , they are both going on the main lake humps and shore drops on the top down to about 21 feet. Twilight early and late has been best.Pick up Perch colored large 1/4 oz Northland Moxey minnows. Tip with a minnow head and work them aggressively 1 to 3 feet off bottom. I have also during the evenings seen and caught many walleyes 5 to 8 feet down from the surface just before the prime time bite.I do not think these fish drop down that far they must be different schools feesding very high. This has happened the last two weeks. Get out and get a last Walleye supper this week. See you on the Ice Pat.

Pat from Denny's ResortHello from Big Winnie. We have had a melt down. The snow is almost all gone. Temps dropping tonight. The lake well get better soon. Some road beds have water in them. We are making new paths outside of the old roads. The fishing has been ok with the perch bite picking up. I think more light getting through the ice has helped.Morning bite has been good from 9 till about 1 pm. 20 to 30 feet of water still the best. Several main lake bars and humps are working well. Walleye action is ok too with the best bite being the twilight period. in 12 to 20 feet of water. Pike are still going on bigger shinners or suckers set on tip ups 3 feet off the bottom. 12 to 18 feet best bet.Area panfish lakes starting to get froze back up. They should also be better for travel soon.. See you on the ice Pat.

Travel is on ice roads there is some slush in spots . The lake in other spots has refroze. Try not to crowd as this creates to much weight and then the ice floods. Call ahead to a resort or bait shop for up to the minute reports on lake conditions. See you on the ice. Pat.
